Constantin Adi Gavrilă is a well known Romanian mediator and mediation trainer, co-founder and general manager of the Craiova Mediation Center Association, first president of the Romanian Mediation Centers Union, and first vice-president of the Romanian Mediation Council. He was honored with the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) International Development Committee’s 2009 Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of his extraordinary work navigating a complex political environment to advance alternative dispute resolution in Romania.
As general manager, he observed different strategies for implementing mediation nationwide, including establishment of pilot programs, mediation practice, nationwide mediation training, creation of local mediation centers and a national network of centers, public awareness programs, regulation and development of an independent regulation body.
He mediates cases of all types including commercial, family, and real estate, taking a practical and business-oriented approach to dispute resolution. With ten years of experience as a mediator, he is able to quickly grasp the central issues in dispute, using creative approaches to solve seemingly intractable problems.
Adi Gavrilă is a member of the Independent Standards Commission convened by the International Mediation Institute (IMI).
ADR Experience
- Mediated a wide variety of complex cases within the Craiova Pilot Mediation Center established by the Romanian Ministry of Justice and the United States of America Embassy in Romania
- Successfully resolved cases involving commercial disputes, real property, oil and gas, personal injury, family, defamation, employment, contracts, healthcare, and international business cases
- Worked with the Romanian Employment Agency to design and implement a conflict management system on a three year EU funded project that also involved training of hundreds of mediators
- Designed a peer mediation program and trained teachers and students as mediator
- Participated as a member of the Independent Standards Commission created by the International Mediation Institute to the development and the implementation of international standards in mediation
- Lead a two-year project, funded by the US Embassy in Romania to promote mediation in twenty-four Romanian counties
- Served as Vice-President of the first Romanian Mediation Council that resulted in the development of the mediation profession based on national standards for mediation, mediators, and mediation training providers; and in the authorization and coordination of mediation activity at the national level
- First President of the Romanian Mediation Centers Union that grew from five to over forty affiliated mediation centers as General Manager of the Craiova Mediation Center Association, created the framework for mediation of thousands of cases and training of thousands of mediators, creation of over fifty mediation centers nationwide, organization of hundreds of mediation related conferences, participation in the mediation legislative process and promotion of the mediation profession through the Internet, mass media, and publications
- Head of the organizing committee and moderator for over fifty mediation conferences since 2002
- International expert and speaker at mediation conferences in Romania, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, France, Croatia, UK, and United States of America
- Lead a five-year pilot project, funded by the US Embassy in Romania to train five hundred Romanian lawyers with a team of over thirty American and Romanian experts; he designed, organized, and participated at the selection process committees which selected the participants from a pool of over one thousand lawyers
- Trained hundreds of lawyers, judges, and other professionals as mediators
